Philip French and Sarah Randall started their married life in 1813 in Butler County, Ohio. We have not found the
parents or siblings of Philip French. I strongly believe that he and David French who married Rebeca Sturman
were brothers. George Hedges French and his brother Samuel may also be brothers of Philip and David. The
given names in Philip's line suggest a relationship with the George Washington French (Henry French chart
#31)who lived for a time in Vigo county, IN and eventually settled in the northern part of Vermillion county, Illinois.
In looking at many records, and knowing a little about the movement of the migration of people, I think this group of
French's came from the area around Hedgesville, WV. Philip's wife Sarah was born in Hardy co. VA, not far away. It
has been suggested that they may have come into New York and migrated south to Virginia.
The sources that we have used are census, cemetery records, legal documents, land records, marriage records,
obituaries, and comparing notes with other researchers of this line. I have been ably assisted by Nora French
Lane. There are some areas that have not been completely researched at this time. We welcome additions or
